A New Year’s Resolution With Real Meaning

In Ideas, Innovation on January 5, 2009 at 10:41 pm

Ok, this isn’t a marketing / PR / Branding post. This post is about doing the right thing. I was recently asked by Ben Bergman to help spread the word about an organization he is involved with called Takes All Types. I’ll let Ben explain:

Takes All Types uses social media to recruit volunteer blood donors and alert them when their specific blood type is needed in their community. A Facebook application, text message short codes and a website allow users to sign up to the first global Blood Donor Registry. This innovative system provides a global network to support local recruitment efforts, and enables local collection centers to mobilize their local donor population immediately, by blood type, on a scale commensurate with the need. The system holds the promise to stabilize the blood supply, reduce the incidence of shortages, and vastly reduce the vein-to-vein time, which makes everyone safer and healthier.

Please review the Facebook application at, text BLOOD to 69866, and visit Register to support your community even if you can’t give blood, as the system provides emergency response capabilities in times of crisis.

One very positive uncommon characteristic of this cause is that it is eminently achievable. If we do one big push right now and get this grassroots human infrastructure in place, we can end the chronic blood shortage.

I plan on donating this month. Why don’t we all help Ben?

  1. Sounds like a great idea, I’ve just signed up and will send it round – good luck to Ben in getting more donors!
